Lent is the period of 40 days that starts with Ash Wednesday and continues up to Easter Sunday. The season of Lent started with the early Christians who used this time not only to prepare new members for Baptism, but to prepare their own hearts through sacrifice, prayer and good works for the celebration of Easter. It's common to hear people today talking about "giving up" something they love during Lent-- like eating potato chips or ice cream or even shopping J. Sacrificing something we love can help to remind us of the sacrifice Jesus made for us on the cross. It's also good to add something to what you normally do -- like reading a Christian devotional or other book during Lent or doing a service project that will help someone in need. If you have a good suggestion for Lent, please email it here, and we'll post them on this webpage (no names will be posted). To print this info, right click with your mouse and select Print |
