Current Projects at Olivet

Koinonia Project:  Koinonia, established in the early 1960's, is a Christian non-profit human services organization, serving individuals and families in the communities of Franconia, East Springfield, Newington, and Kingstowne.  Their mission is to give hope and help with compassion and care to individuals and families in our local community who are going through extenuating circumstances, and are in need of emergency assistance.    Please visit their website for more information.

Since September 3, 2008, Olivet parishioners volunteer at Koinonia the 1st and 3rd Wednesday evenings of each month.  Between the hours of 6 and 8:30 pm, Olivet volunteers will be accepting donations and meeting with clients, helping to fill their clothing and food requests.

  • Please contact Scott Wheeler for more information.
  • Volunteer schedule coming soon.....
    Team A meets on the first Wednesday of the month;
    Team B meets on the third Wednesday.
Manta, Ecuador:  Olivet supported children in Manta, Ecuador with a toy drive in  December 2007, and provided crutches and walkers in 2008.   This year we will continue to collect used crutches and walkers to send to Manta.  Please contact Dan Wilmoth if you would like to donate.
Iowa Mission Trip:  Olivet parishioners are planning a mission trip to help the flood-ravaged Midwest during the coming summer of 2009.  Please contact Dan Wilmoth if you are interested in going.

Olivet has also accepted the Diocese of Virginia responsibility for coordinating and/or assisting any individual or Parish (within the Diocese of Virginia) plan and execute any relief efforts to the flood-ravaged people of Iowa.  Visit the Iowa Relief page for the Diocese of Virginia for more of the exciting details for the upcoming efforts, to include the January 31, 2009 meeting at Olivet.  This meeting will include a representative from the Diocese of Iowa and Home Depot, and will be held from noon to 2 pm.

St. Anne's Church in Reston and Pohick Church in Lorton conducted mission trips in August 2008.
